ERA Staff & Friends Party

Surrey In A Hurry
would like to thank the ERA (Eagle Racing Association) and everyone else that made this past weekend (June 22-24, 2007) such a blast! We all had a great time and Team Surrey In A Hurry even walked a way with a bunch of hardware! Here are some of the weekend's highlights:

Saturday, June 23, 2007 – Race resuls:
{slimbox album=|Saturday, June 23, 2007| title=|Justin Gibson, Junior Dragster Runner Up|}images/stories/articles/07.06.24_ashcroft/263_justin_gibson_jr_RU_on_sat.jpg{/slimbox}

Super Pro:
    Winner: Pete Bereditsch
    Runner Up: Ken Orser
Notes: All Surrey In A Hurry final!
Outlaw Top Comp:
    Winner: Zak Clarke
    Runner Up: Terry Langdon Davies
Notes: The final round of OTC was filled with the two robot racers looking for a clean tree with 9.90 dials on the 9.99 bump. That's the spirit!
Gambler's Race:
    Winner: Mark Stephens
    Runner Up: Al Quigley
Notes: Al donated his winnings to the Jr dragster's ET Finals fund. Good for you Al!
Sportsman:
Notes: Nick 'The Greek Bear' in his first ever round of competition, takes the win light! OK, so he didn't make it through any more rounds, but the kid does some pretty impressive burnouts and cuts some mean
lights. Throughout the day he foot brake'd his way to a bunch of killer
lights
including a 0.007 and a wicked 0.003! Did I mention it was the
first time he'd ever raced the car
? Now Bear: it's up to you to see if
you can do it again.

The annual Eagle Racing Association Friends & Family Barbeque was a feast! Prepared by Surrey In A Hurry's own executive chef, the one and only Guy of  "Cooked with Guy" fame, the dinner included barbeque steak and half-chickens for all! The Gibsons (as far as I can remember) donated a boat load of Salmon, and other attendees brought in more goodies. The Barbie's massive vat of pasta salad was a hit, getting cleaned out completely!

About 40 or so enjoyed dinner topped of with slices of a massive cake supplied by all around cool-guy Jack and his wife. Thanks go out to the ERA and everyone else that helped and/or donated to the cause. Awesome!

Sunday, June 24, 2007 – Race resuls:

Super Pro:
    Winner: Al "Chips" Hampton
Runner Up: Jim "The Steak" Behnke
    Third: Joe "Rubinowitz" Mura
Notes: A complete sweep for Surrey In A Hurry! Congrats to Al for the win… especially in a borrowed car on his first weekend in it! Thanks go out to Zak for generously loaning the "Super Surrey Vega" to the midget. So what's that now? Six or Seven wins for that car at the Eagle 'Plex?

Oh! Just one more thing… quote of the weekend has to go to Dale for his "Oh! Sorry ladies…" in Lytton on the way back home. You really had to be there to know why it was so funny, but picture a lineup for the men's washrooms without a lady to be found. Comedy gold right there…

Here's a buncha pics of the weekend from Team Surrey In A Hurry's perspective:

Beef Wins!

beef_win_475

Photos courtesy of Manfred Ketterer.

Don't know all the details yet, but Surrey In A Hurry sends out a big congratulations to Chris 'Beef' Mitchel. Apparently, Beef scored his first ever race win at the 20th Annual B.C. Oldtime Drags & Rod Run in his recently cobbled together completed '48 Chevy. He dominated the giant 8 car field employing a strategy of making sure to not red light first in all three rounds. Genius! More info as it comes in…

Engineers

Understanding Engineers:

Two engineering students were biking across a university campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?"

The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike, threw it on the ground, took off her clothes and said "Take what you want."

The second engineer nodded approvingly and said, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit you anyway."

To the optimist, the glass is half full.

To the pessimist, the glass is half empty.

To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be

A priest, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, "What's with those guys? We've been waiting 15 minutes!"The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such inept golfers!" The priest said, "Here comes the greens keeper, let's ask him."

He said, "Hello, George! What's wrong with the group ahead of us? They're rather slow aren't they?"

The greens keeper replied, "Oh, yes. That's a group of blind fire fighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime."

The group fell silent for a moment…

The priest said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight."

The doctor said, "Good idea. I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague and see if there's anything he can do for them."

The engineer said, "Why can't they play at night?"

What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers? Mechs build weapons and civs build targets.

The graduate with a science degree asks "Why does it work?"

The graduate with an engineering degree asks "How does it work?"

The graduate with an accounting degree asks "How much will it cost?"

The graduate with an arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"

Four engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible designers of the human body.
One said, "It was a mechanical engineer, just look at all the joints."
Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections."
The third said, "It was obviously a chemical engineer, just think about all the reactions taking place each second in the body."
The last one said, "You're all wrong, it had to have been a civil engineer."

"Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?"

Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

An engineer was crossing a road one day, when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess."
He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket.

The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for one week."
The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to his pocket.

The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I'll stay with you for one week and do ANYTHING you want."
Again the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket.

Finally, exasperated the frog asked, "What is the matter with you? I've told you that I'm a beautiful princess and that I'll stay with you for one week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss  me?"

The engineer said, "Look, I'm an engineer. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog, now that's cool."

Quick Thinking

A man in a Florida supermarket tries to buy half a head of lettuce.
The very young produce assistant tells him that they sell only whole
heads
of lettuce. The man persists and asks to see the manager. The boy
says he'll ask his manager about it.

Walking into the back room, the boy said to his manager, "Some asshole
wants to buy half a head of lettuce." As he finished his sentence, he
turned to find the man standing right behind him, so he added, "And
this gentleman has kindly offered to buy the other half!"

The manager approved the deal, and the man went on his way. Later the
manager said to the boy, "I was impressed with the way you got
yourself out of that situation earlier.  We like people who think on their feet here. Where are you from, son?"

"Canada, sir," the boy replied.

"Well, why did you leave Canada?" the manager asked.

The boy said, "Sir, there's nothing but whores and hockey players up there."

"Really?" said the manager. "My wife is from Canada."

"No shit?" replied the boy. "Who'd she play for?"

RIP William Clarke

William 'Rocky' Clarke

 William "Rocky" Clarke

Dec 11, 1923 – June 5, 2007

It's time to be serious for moment while we pay our respects to the family and friends of William Clarke. While many of us know him as Rocky, to Surrey In A Hurry's own Zak Clarke, he'll always be remembered as Grandpa.
